"Oh What A Night!" We all turned out for our Comet Family Back2School GEAR UP Family Night last Thursday, August 8th! What a wonderful turnout and success! At least 225 children and adults attended our back to school #gearuparkansas family event. The MMS community engaged in wonderful enrichment activities from groups like Arkansas AIMS, Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub, Mid-America Science Museum, and the Delta Cultural Center. Pulaski Technical College, University of Central Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock provided college and career awareness. And did we mention the great food from Eat My Catfish and Big Baby's Barbecue! -------- Mills Middle School (MMS) is one of 15 Arkansas middle schools participating in GEAR UP and the only school in the Pulaski County Special School District. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a partnership funded by the U.S. Department of Education to increase the college-going rate of low-income secondary school students. It was an exciting morning in PCSSD! Our school based health clinic celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dozens were in attendance, including board member Tina Ward, Sen.
