Happy Diwali! Diwali is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. #pcssdproud #serveall

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed tonight. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. - meaning you "gain" an hour of sleep. There are only two states that don't observe DST: Hawaii and Arizona (with the exception of Navajo Nation). #pcssdproud #serveall

Last week 150 MMS Scholars scored 70% or higher on the 1st quarter ELA (English Language Arts) DFA (District Formative Assessment). Scholars were recognized for their hard work. Our goal is to double the number of scholars next quarter. Parents you can help by having your child read at least 20 minutes every day. After they read ask them to share with you the most important point or central idea of the text, who are some of the characters, what is the conflict he is experiencing, and any personal connections they can make with the text. Let's go Comets! #pcssdproud #millsmiddleschoolcomets #thebestisyettocome

Happy Halloween! Did you know: Halloween originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. What kind of costume will you be wearing tonight (to ward off ghosts, of course 👻)? #pcssdproud #serveall

Mills Middle School Instructional Staff are committed to meeting the personalized and academic needs of all scholars to prepare them for success. At our recent staff meeting, teachers grouped in their respective departments used the AVID Strategy Think, Ink, Pair, Share to reflect upon and answer the question "What is my individual role in increasing the reading level of all Mills Middle school scholars and how will I go about doing this?" A great meeting!! #thebestisyettocome #learningisrequired #millsmiddleschoolcomets #avid4possibility #pcssdproud

At Tuesday's PLC (Professional Learning Community) teachers were exploring the power of inquiry (questioning) specifically the positive impact higher level questioning has on our scholars in furthering their critical thinking as well as making lessons more rigorous and engaging. Teachers played the DOK (Depth of Knowledge) Game where they moved various texts to the corresponding DOK level. Kudos to Ms. Lyons, Ms. Powers and Ms. Hines for being the winners of the DOK Game. #learningisrequired #higherlevelquestioning #millsmiddleschoolcomets #pcssdproud

Last week 7th Grade AVID Scholars from around the district met at Lake Willastein to engage in some team building activities. Pictured here is the "introduction station" led by AVID Coordinator, Mr. Boaitey from Mills Middle School. Scholars created name tents and introduced themselves moving to another person every 30 seconds. Other stations included "arts and crafts," "kickball," "field games." Great time had by all! #avid4possibilty #pcssdproud #millsmiddleschoolcomets #teambuilding
